Don’t Let People Bring You Down: Some Helpful Quotes

People bring you down- one woman being bullied by two women

We have all been around people that bring us down, and unfortunately, some of them do it on purpose. They just seem to have a knack for finding the negative in every situation, as well as in all other people, including us! However, it’s really important for our well-being that you don’t let people bring you down.

When people try to put you down it’s very challenging to be around them. It will drain us and tire us out if we cannot remove ourselves from the situation. It’s like they are energy vampires and are intent on sucking the very life out of us. Unfortunately, they may be close relatives, work colleagues, or someone we share accommodation with. Or…… they may even be us!

If we are the source of our own negativity, the one who is constantly dumping down on ourselves, then we need to stop it immediately……. because it only ever leads to unhappiness and ill health. If this is you, you can learn some useful solutions that will help you out of this bad habit by reading my previous posts, including Nothing Is More Important Than The Way We Feel, How Can I Make My Life Better, and Why Do I Have Negative Thoughts? In these posts, you will learn that life is not about accepting circumstances as they are, or about ‘finding ourselves,’ but that life is all about creating ourselves to become all that we want to be!

So that’s about us….. What about when we are being dumped upon by others?

“Negativity may knock at your door, but that doesn’t mean you have to let it in.” – Anonymous

Life presents us with many choices every day. And accepting negativity from others is a choice we make…. I know many people believe that they are powerless to change the situation, and this is in itself a choice that they have inadvertently made. And by continuing to allow negative situations that are harming us, mentally, emotionally, or physically, we are effectively walking into future lives that will be worse than our current lives…..

Think about that!…… Your life is not going to get any better if you are surrounding yourself with negative people, events, and situations. Why would anyone choose this and then continue to accept this?

Our choice: hang out with those who bring us down….. or remove ourselves from their influence so that we can look forward to a better future. After all, life is too short to hang out with destructive people.

To enable us to make the choice of removing ourselves from negative influences, it assists us if we first understand WHY are other people wanting to bring us down?

“Remember…Whoever is trying to bring you down is already below you.” – Ziad K. Abdelnour

Ok, so what does this quote mean?….. People who continually make adverse judgments about others are not happy or healthy, and are certainly not wise people! Yes, they have issues that they are not dealing with, and instead, are taking their frustrations out on anyone else who will listen.

What they are trying to project on us is actually a direct reflection of their subconscious programming. Their words and actions ARE revealing to us how crappy their lives are, and how badly they are feeling on the inside, mentally, emotionally, and physically, about their own lives….. and as such, their opinions have nothing to do with us!

So consider this: It doesn’t really matter what a sad, unhappy, unhealthy person thinks of us, because all they are able to think about and share are sad, unhappy, and unhealthy thoughts….. none of us need these people in our lives! So, we should remove ourselves from their influence altogether, or as far and as often from it as possible.

Man standing on top of mountain banner for Midas ManifestationNegative people always have one thing in common, and that is they think the ‘problem’ they are complaining about is never their doing…. They think that everything bad that happens is always someone else’s fault and in this way, they never accept any responsibility for anything that is not working out for them in their lives. And they think that they are doing us a favor by pointing out that we are the ones that need to change….. They want us to change so that they will feel better! (And this doesn’t sound like a very good idea to me.)

They think they feel superior because ‘they are right, and we are wrong,’ and this makes them feel like they have won something over us. This is just a behavioral habit (a program) that they have learned from others that were responsible for their early life programming…. they were taught that bullying is the way to feel superior to others. (Hopefully, we were lucky enough to learn differently.)

Bullying, negativity, and low self-esteem are all traits of severely injured personalities and unfortunately, these people can’t yet understand that no one wins by pulling others down. So, we should never let other people’s opinions influence the way we feel….

…. unless they are positive opinions, and we can use them to build ourselves up. Hanging out with positive people is of enormous benefit as happy, healthy, confident, and successful people do not go around with the intention of bringing others down, but will always be an inspiration to us!

“People who project negativity typically have low self-esteem. They feel bad about themselves, and their negativity is simply a reflection of those feelings.” – Hendrie Weisinger

Program your body to lose weight audio giftThink about this: No matter what we do in life, there are always going to be some people who disapprove, or disagree. This is just a fact of life because we are all diverse beings with different thoughts, ideas, values, and beliefs….. this simply means that we are never, ever, going to be able to please everyone!

This is important to understand, and when you get it, your life will forever change, for the better….. simply because when you stop trying to please other people and put your focus where it should be, you will begin to start looking after yourself better!

And when you care about how you feel you will begin doing things and hanging out with people who make you feel better…… and your life will start to get better from the moment you put your happiness first!

If you put your happiness and well-being at the top of your priority list, then when you are nearing the end of this journey you will not be disappointed with the life experience you have lived…… and this is the most important thing about life, here in this reality…. To have a fun-filled, joyful experience…… after all, none of us want to approach the end of our lives and be thinking ‘It could have been better if only I had…..’

“You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you.” – Brian Tracy

Rewrite History Reviews-childhood-quizMost of us are living life on ‘autopilot’ or in a ‘reactionary mode.’ This is where we see, hear, feel, taste, and touch stuff happening in our environment, and we react to it based on information stored in our subconscious minds. So in effect, we are the victims of our deep-seated beliefs or the mind programs that are running below the level of conscious thought.

When in this mode, we are not able to make the best decisions based on current information, but instead, react based on information from our past habits, which may or may not be beneficial. I say not beneficial, because although it seems that many situations present themselves over and over again, they are never completely the same. Everything is constantly changing… this is just the nature of life, and so we can also change the way we respond,….. but only if we use our conscious minds.

It’s important to understand that if you keep allowing other people to dump on you, sooner or later you will begin to believe them, to believe that you are in some way ‘not good enough’ and this will affect the quality of your life….. especially if the person bringing you down is someone you cannot escape from, someone you love or someone you care about. Just don’t do it! Don’t let others bring you down for any reason whatsoever!

Brian Tracy’s quote above gives us an insight into taking control of our lives in a way that will benefit our future…. “We can control our attitude towards what happens to us.” When negative people show up in our lives, what can we do? It’s best to get out of there as soon as we can. However, if this is not possible, we must protect ourselves mentally, emotionally, and energetically as best as we can. So:

– People who put you down have their own issues. Don’t buy into Their Problems by allowing them to bring you down to their level. Know that you are not part of ‘their problem,’ no matter what they may say or believe.

– Don’t engage on their level, rather just accept them as they are without taking their negativity on board.

The Amazing You banner ad– Don’t waste energy trying to change their minds. If they are habitually negative, they are not going to suddenly change their minds because of something you say. Just don’t let other people bring you down….. got it?

– If they continue to download negativity to you, don’t give them the response they want, and don’t become afraid, sad, remorseful, sorry, or hurt. Rather, be confident knowing that they are the ones with the problem here, not you. Try to change the subject, and move on.

– Remain mindful of the present moment instead of becoming angry with the past or fearful of the future in relation to what they are complaining about.

Remember: No One Has The Power To Hurt You Unless You Let Them Get Inside Your Head, and under no circumstances is it beneficial for you to allow negative people to have any influence over the quality and the content of Your life!

“If a person finds negative people in his life, then he needs to mend his own nature than that of others, for his own basic grounding decides the level of acidic or toxicity surrounding him.” – Anuj Somany

Wealth DNA Code-Find out more buttonIn this quote, Anuj Somany is talking directly about The Law of Attraction. He is saying that negative people are only in our lives because they are a direct match to our own nature. And when we understand this, we have the remedy to our problems….. In the vibrational universe that we exist in, like attracts like, and it can be no other way.

This is why it is we who must first change ourselves, so that we will begin attracting positive and supportive people, and therefore better circumstances into our lives.

“Your present circumstances don’t determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start.” – Nido Qubein

We can ALL get to live the better lives we desire for ourselves from where we are now. It just means making better decisions, starting now. Decisions that will revolve around raising our vibrations…. And a very important aspect of this is to remove negativity from our lives.

This means stop hanging out with people that bring you down, stop engaging in habits that don’t support your overall well-being, and stop going to places and events that don’t contribute to your desires for an improved future.

The Law of Attraction quizLife is far too short to waste your time doing things and hanging out with those that don’t bring out the best in you. You are not here to fix other people, point out all that is wrong with the world, or be unhappy. Let other people get on with their own lives because they are going to anyway, and take better care of yourself.

Know that you are here for your own experience and that you don’t have anything to prove to anyone. So get on with living your life in the best possible way you can, because after all, it’s your choice what you do with each day you are given. So make each one count as only you can!

Be grateful for all the experiences you have had up until now, as they have made you the person you are…. The person who is here now, reading this, and who is now ready to leave the past behind and move on to a Better, Brighter, And Happier Future!

I hope you don’t let anyone bring you down, ever again!

  1. Hi Andrew,

A very inspiring and useful text for all those who fall under the influence of energy vampires and there are really many of them. The fact is that we shape our own happiness and positive thoughts by changing the way we look at things. We must urgently exclude negative people from our lives! You have given phenomenal advice for overcoming this situation and it is wonderful that you are helping people to have a happier life.

Quotes are divine and I like them the most “You cannot control what happens to you, but you can control your attitude toward what happens to you, and in that, you will be mastering change rather than allowing it to master you.” – Brian Tracy. Also, “No one has the power to hurt us unless we let them get inside our heads” is just an amazing saying!

Just amazing! Keep acting inspiring and helping people!

    All the best!

    1. Hi Danijela.

Many thanks for taking the time to read and comment on my article.
I have to agree with you that there are way too many energy vampires, and if we let them, they will suck all the vital life force energy out of us. It’s important, as you say, to get these people out of our lives, or to limit the time we spend with them, as soon as possible. Let’s not give them the opportunity to ‘hurt’ us or deplete us as OUR LIVES are far too important to be brought down and limited by others who are living ONLY FOR THEIR BENEFIT!

Our lives, our wellbeing, and our happiness should be our top priority….. and when we have got ourselves sorted out, then we can be of tremendous benefit to others that we love and wish to support.

I wish you well on your journey, Danijela.

  2. Hi Andrew,

This is another great post. There are so many useful tips here.

It’s amazing how many people try to bring you down on a regular basis.
The thing is that they aren’t in the best frame of mind also and are in need of reprogramming themselves, most of the time they don’t want to though.

I have done a video recently which raises a few points you made here.

If you wanted to check that out go to – https://youtu.be/H4_gyMUDgTc

It’s about having a positive mental attitude and it seems like some of the points you mentioned are here…so we may have a similar outlook.

As the old saying goes…you can only lead a horse to water, that rings true with so many people, even more so now with all the problems in the world.

However, you have got to want to make that change yourself, you can’t really force it on others.

Hopefully in time people can and will change.

    Great read pal.

    1. Thanks for the great comments.
Yes, it’s true that anyone who tries to bring others down is not in a very good space. they have issues that need dealing with, however, they are not usually able to turn their critical eye on themselves.

Happy and healthy people only want what’s best for everyone, including themselves because they understand that their lives are enhanced when all those around them are also in a good frame of mind. Your video has some good tips for developing and then maintaining a healthy state of mind, as well as body.

Like many people, when I first got into personal development, I thought this was so great that everyone should know about it. And I proceeded to tell everyone how they can change to make their lives better….. Big mistake! Until people recognize within themselves a desire to make changes and then actively pursue different options, we are better off to keep our mouths shut, unless asked. Because, as you say “you can lead a horse to water…”

I’ve come to the conclusion that life is great, exactly as it is… Nobody is right and nobody is wrong in how they are living their lives. We are all different and it is this contrast that is our greatest teacher…. We can see in others what we don’t want for ourselves and use this as the impetus to make ourselves better… not to change them. Let them have their experience, and the time will come, or not, when they are ready to change, and then we can be there to support them.

Thanks for sharing mate. See you around!
      Andrew

  3. Wow, Andrew! Lots of powerful and encouraging quotes here. I also love how you have developed the article around these statements.

My favourite is the one by Nido Qubin, “Your present circumstances don’t determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start”

We all know how influential our past and current circumstances are in shaping our future but statements like this can challenge us into recognising and embracing a deliberately different course that’s contrary to expectations. It helps to nudge us into seeking a different path and finding the resources and help to achieve it.

Thank you for your inspiring article.

    Femi

    1. Hey, Femi.
Many thanks for taking the time to read and comment on my post.

Seeking a new path, an unknown road is an adventure. Maybe it’s scary for many people at first to deviate from what they currently know, but it is the only way to develop a new future, as you have mentioned.

Our past thoughts and actions have got us to where we are now, but the future is something that we can consciously choose, and deliberately create for ourselves….. with every thought and action that we have from this moment forward.
What will we choose…. more of the same content that we already have, or something much bigger and more adventurous?
I know what I am setting out to create, What about you?

Cheers mate. Have a great day,
      Andrew

  4. Hi Andrew

There is so much here that resonates with me. As you say, the person being negative towards you is not in a good place. When you bring someone else down, you are doing yourself more harm than you are them.

Unfortunately, the person is often a work colleague (or family member!) and you can’t always remove yourself from them. I had a situation with a work colleague who was trying to label me as a scatterbrain (not the words she used but you get the idea). While I knew where she was coming from, I also knew that if I took it on board I would become even more of a scatterbrain! What I actually said was ‘I don’t identify with that – that’s not me’. (Just as an aside, affirmations have helped me be a lot less scatterbrained!)

Through all of this, it’s important to wish them well and not do your bit to make a situation worse. After all, we don’t know what has gone on in their life to make them that way.

Thanks as ever for your thoughtful insights.

    Best,

    Jean

    1. Hi Jean.
You’ve touched on a very important point here with regards to The Law of Attraction. “it’s important to wish them well and not do your bit to make a situation worse.” So true, and this is a very wise response. We can never walk in another’s shoes, so we cannot ever fully understand their lives. Therefore, how can we pass judgment upon them.

It’s great when we are confronted and can come out on top. It really helps keep our vibration up, and also shows the other person that we’re not buying into their BS. They are actually powerless without our response, so they gain nothing. Eventually, they will give up taunting us and hopefully understand that their negativity doesn’t serve anyone, OR, they may just move on and bully someone else!

Haha, it’s great to know that affirmations have helped you become less of a scatterbrain! Keep them up, and I’m sure it won’t be long before you become a genius 🙂

Have a great day, Jean 🙂

  5. Hi there…. I love this article! I always try to avoid or limit my time with negative people. There is enough negative stuff out there without looking for it. I have been studying the law of attraction for years and know that it is activated by positive thoughts. I try to use my negative thoughts as a trigger to think of something happy or positive. I realize I have some blocks somewhere that I need to identify and address. I’m definitely going to check out your Manifesting recommendation. It sounds like the exact thing I need to identify my blocks and finally move me closer to my dreams.
Thanks for such a great article and recommendation!

    1. Hey Jamie. Thanks for taking the time to read and comment on my post.

Yes, there is enough negative stuff already without us having to go and look for more. However, when we encounter it, and cannot remove ourselves from it, it is wise to do as you have suggested and use it as a trigger for positive thoughts.

We all have blocks to address, and this is something that will never cease as long as we identify with the human aspects of ourselves, as opposed to our true spiritual nature. And this is ok, because this is what the journey of life is about…. What we perceive as blocks are just a gap between what we believe (subconscious programming) and what we want (conscious desires.) So we are wanting stuff and our beliefs are working against us or limiting our ability to achieve what we want.

Our journey, our life, is a journey of fun and learning and can be viewed as a school where we learn to create our desires. We are all students here, and it’s not a competition or a race to the finish line, as it’s the steps along the way that we are here to experience…. so have desires, identify limitations, reprogram yourself to eliminate the blocks, and…… magically manifest what you want! What a great game. AND the beauty of it is: this game will never end as we are always summoning new desires because life is continuing to evolve.

So the only reasonable thing to do is to chill out and enjoy the ride 🙂
I hope you find what you are looking for in my “Awesome Products to help you evolve” category.
If you need any more information, send me a comment and I’ll be more than happy to help in any way I can.

      Have a great day, mate.

  6. Beautiful quotes you have here, Andrew. I love them all, but the first one stands out for me: Negativity may knock at your door, but that doesn’t mean you have to let it in. It’s brilliant and so simple! Not simple to do, of course, but doable.

And Brian Tracy’s quote is also great. I met him a few years ago at a seminar, and he is the sweetest man you can imagine.

I have been lucky, I guess. I have met very few negative people in my life. Or I am naive like my mother, that is also possible of course, LOL. My mother always saw the good in people, I loved her dearly for that. In contrast with my father who started by thinking the person he met was no good. You really had to win him over. As a consequence, he could be so disappointed in people, because once he liked you, you’d better not do anything that wasn’t to his liking. He was quite black and white in his thinking.

Anyway, you are so right to not let people bring you down. I am not as black and white thinking like my father, but I do believe in avoiding people that are not helpful and positive. 🙂
    Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. Yes, I agree. Not letting negativity in is easy to say, but harder to do….
We are programmed to be ‘fixers’ of things we consider to be wrong, unjust, and broken. So, for many of us, our natural tendency is to help when negativity rears its head.

However, this is not always the best course of action for us or the recipient of our help. I say this because I came to the realization many years ago that some people just do not want to be helped! They are ‘happy’ to remain in their negativity. This was a startling and shocking revelation for me because I naturally thought that everyone would naturally choose to be happy over being sad…. but that’s not the case.

So, no matter how hard we try, what awesome advice or solutions we offer, if the recipient is not ready to hear the message, our energies are wasted trying to help them.

Brian Tracy has appeared in my last two posts now, quite by accident….. there’s got to be something in that! I’ve seen a few of his videos, but never had the pleasure of meeting him…. good for you 🙂 I think he had much to be grateful for…. What a great life he has created for himself!

I’m a bit like your mum in the respect that I always look for the best in people and situations….. I’m exercising my right to choose, so why wouldn’t I go for the best feeling thoughts that I can find?
But, like you, if no good will come out of a situation, I think it is better to avoid it altogether, for the sake of maintaining my vibration.

      Many thanks for sharing, Hannie.
      I wish you a great day 🙂
      Andrew
