So, here you are. You’ve reached this point in your life and you realize it’s not as great as you had wanted or expected it to be. Maybe things were better before, and you’ve recently crashed…. (It can happen for any number of reasons.) Or, maybe you just never reached the peak experiences you expected to….. you know, some of the great stuff that you see other people enjoying…… but not you!
So now you’ve begun questioning yourself and your relationship with your ‘life experience.’ And naturally, you want to know how you can turn your life around and make it better. Why? Because there is distance between where you are now and where you want to be.
Well, the good news is that we live in an ever-changing world that is filled with opportunities for more growth, adventure, love, success, excitement, etc. more than you could ever experience in a thousand lifetimes….. so it’s all out there, waiting for someone to make it their own. Are you ready?????
Ready or not, the challenge for us is understanding how we can access more of the good stuff we desire while leaving the ‘not so good stuff’ in the past where it belongs and out of our future lives.
Fortunately, many great people before us have found ways to live awesome lives, and luckily for us, they have left ‘signposts’ in the form of written words, so that we can emulate them. So, let’s have a look at some of the things they have said in the hopes that we will be inspired to turn our lives around and make today the first day of the ‘best of our lives!’
“Life will only change when you become more committed to your dreams than you are to your comfort zone.” – Billy Cox
This quote from Billy, probably contains the most important ingredient to making our lives better. It’s about us (it’s always about us) having something we are passionate about, a dream that engulfs us. Because if we are waking up every day, uninspired, bored before we even get out of bed, what hope do we have of having a great life, let alone a great day or next hour…..
Our comfort zones can be like a prison. However, luckily it is we who hold the key to our own cell and not anyone else. But it’s not enough to have the key, we then have to put it to good use. Finding the willpower to extend ourselves beyond what we are already familiar with is often our greatest challenge. But we must find a way to do it if we want to live a life that is beyond the safety and comfort that most people are hiding behind.
If you are serious about turning your life around, you cannot sit around and wait for it to happen or for someone else to do it for you. You will have to find something that inspires you, something to get excited about, and something worth getting out of bed for.
And if nothing in the whole world currently inspires you, then learn to become passionate about something you are already doing…… because it’s your emotion, your enthusiasm that’s important here, not the actual thing you are doing. Being excited, enthusiastic, and passionate are the fuel we need to motivate us to move forward with our lives…. to bigger and better things. Another of Billy’s quotes is that is just oozing with truth is……
“Want something you’ve never had? Do something you’ve never done!”
“Instead of worrying about what you cannot control, shift your energy to what you can create.” ― Roy T. Bennett
Often, it is fear that is holding us back from living the better lives we desire. Fear is a destroyer of many dreams. We may be afraid of the unknown, afraid that we are not deserving, afraid of what other people may think…. (this could be quite a big list.)
We can then add to this all the things that are outside of our control that we can be fearful of. These may include other people, the financial markets, the weather, the coronavirus, a plane falling from the sky and landing on our business or head, (this is an enormous list without end!)……
And you know what?….. 99.99% of the stuff on this list is never going to happen…. So why do we let the potential that these things may happen prevent us from even attempting to dream of a better life, let alone get actively involved in trying to create one?
We benefit greatly when we put our fears aside and focus our attention on the things we can influence for our advantage… just like every other successful person has done in the past. And this is why we never hear ‘success stories’ about the people who gave in to their fears and so never got off their ass to do anything….. because there are no success stories like this, they just don’t exist!
All the successful people, the ones having great lives, are the ones who envisioned a future that was better than their current lives. And then they got off their asses and took actions about the things that they were able to control to achieve the outcomes they desired. It’s a simple formula…. Change nothing, and nothing changes. Go after what you want and you have a 1,000,000% better chance of getting it!
“Change is painful, but nothing is as painful as staying stuck somewhere you don’t belong.” – Mandy Hale
Everything changes.… that’s just a natural Law of life. And yes, at times it sucks! It can hurt, it can make us question if it was really a good idea to venture into unknown territory. But at the end of the day, if you are committed to the process of making things better, things will get a lot better than if you had stayed stuck in your previous mundane life.
Who is to say where we belong? Has someone assessed you and put you in a category and told you that this is all you can have out of life…. this much and no more? No. No one is qualified to do this, no one knows us so well that they know what is best for us and all that we are capable of achieving….. Hell, most of us don’t even know what we are capable of achieving!
And this is our biggest problem… we give ourselves and our potential way too little credit. So we settle for lives that are stable, routine, and often a little boring. By doing so, we miss out on so much fun, laughter, love, joy, excitement, adventure….. You name it, it’s there for the taking, if only we weren’t afraid to go beyond what we currently know and understand.
“Any change, even a change for the better, is always accompanied by drawbacks and discomforts.” – Arnold Bennett
Change implies that we lose something we already have and gain something new. Ok, yes, as previously mentioned, this can hurt, it can suck, and it can be fearful. However, if you are passionate about achieving your dreams for a better life, the stuff you are moving towards is going to be way better than the stuff you are moving away from….. So, keep that in mind when you think you cannot replace what you are giving up.
I know, if you have to leave friends behind when moving to a new city for a way better job opportunity, there will be some separation anxiety and maybe loneliness for a while. But a better job may also mean new and better friends and therefore better opportunities outside of work as well. And the reality is those good friends will always be good friends even when we are separated by distance.
If we can keep the desired outcome (a better life for ourselves) as our priority, we will be able to endure all sorts of temporary drawbacks and discomforts, simply because we know they are only temporary, and better circumstances for us are just around the corner.
“It doesn’t matter where you are, you are nowhere compared to where you can go.” – Bob Proctor
Bob Proctor recently passed away, on February 3, 2022. However, he will be fondly remembered for the inspiration and support he gave to millions of people throughout his lifelong career helping people like you and me build better lives.
His observation that it doesn’t matter where we currently are on our journey is based on his ability to help countless people improve their lives, no matter what their starting point was. One of Bob’s greatest abilities was to recognize that we all have much more potential than we are currently using… and he knew how to inspire people to not be afraid to go for the better lives they desired for them and their loved ones.
The reality is that our life isn’t over until we depart our bodies. Therefore, we have the potential in every moment we are breathing to be reaching for something better than what we currently have. And why wouldn’t we….. because the alternative is to stay the same or regress into a worse condition/state of being.
Constant progress doesn’t always have to be challenging. I mean, nobody wants to spend every waking moment of their lives concerned with self-improvement and attaining more assets. What a drag that would be! However, we can always take care of ourselves and ensure that our lives are great by doing something simple as often as possible…….
…….. Just reach for a better feeling thought….
Yes, just make the next thought you have better than your last thought….. and you know what, it really can be that easy to make your life a little better, right here at this very moment….
…….. Here comes another thought that makes me feel better than the last one…….
