Self reflection quotes for a better life: (11 quotes to help make your life more meaningful)

Our world mirrors our beliefs

“What we focus on outside is a reflection of what we feel inside.” — Anonymous

If we are joyous in our hearts, we would never intentionally immerse ourselves in situations that will bring us down. This is an important realization because we can get a clear insight into our inner state of being just by becoming aware of what situations we do intentionally immerse ourselves in each and every day.

Are we someone who seeks fun, adventure, love, and growth, or are our feelings (which are a result of our thoughts) leading us to people, places, and events that are not so good for our overall wellbeing? Where are you consciously and unconsciously directing your energies?

“Men do not attract what they want, but what they are.”James Allen

James Allen says it a little differently. However, the wisdom is the same because both quotes recognize the absolute nature of universal law, in this case, The Law of Attraction.

As I have mentioned before, we are spiritual beings. And as such, we chose to come here and play The Game of Life.

Our ability to play a great game is conditional on us forgetting about our true spiritual nature and becoming fully immersed in the concept of being a physical, mental, and emotional being. Awesome!

We attract what we are, not what we want! All these aspects of our ‘selves’ are interconnected and inseparable. When one is affected, all are affected. So where Anonymous (quote above) is saying that the way we see and interact with the world (what we focus on) is a result of our feelings, (which are a direct consequence of our thoughts about what we are sensing within and around us,) James is saying that our outer world is attracted to us because of our thoughts and feelings.

This is such an important concept regarding us manifesting/creating our lives the way we want them to be. WE ARE THE CREATOR OF OUR LIVES, AND WHAT WE ARE CREATING IS A DIRECT MATCH TO WHO WE ARE. IT THEN BECOMES EVIDENT THAT TO ATTRACT A DIFFERENT LIFE WE NEED TO FIRST CHANGE WHO WE ARE. WE THEN ARE THE MAGNET FOR THAT WHICH WE HAVE BECOME…..

I said ‘have become’ because our vibration attracts to us that which we are, not that which we occasionally think about, or wish for, or pray for…. But that which we ARE, body, mind, and feelings.

Becoming what we wish to become can often be a complicated affair, especially if we don’t know how the process works. We are a product of the families and societies that we were born into, and our society, in turn, shapes who we continue to become. Cycles within cycles, all the time giving us reasons to remain the same and opportunities for change.

“I believe that our society is merely a reflection of what is going on inside each and every one of us.” — Seal

Our society is a reflection of what is going on inside of us!Does it ever seem like things are just speeding up, that there is never enough time to do all the things that need to be done, let alone the things we want to do for ourselves?

Modern society can be both a blessing and a curse, and the difference is found in the way WE (our internal world of thoughts and feelings) are relating to our outer world (circumstances, events, people, and activity.)

If we choose to, we can easily be constantly engaged by the many wondrous experiences that life has to offer. There always seems to be something to distract us, occupy our time, influence our thoughts, and stimulate our senses.

However, all this stimulation comes at a cost! We can become so concerned with, fixated on, and influenced by, what is going on outside of us that we actually lose our ‘self.’ And this is why K. L. Toth said:

”One of the greatest tragedies in life is to lose your own sense of self and accept the version of you that is expected by everyone else.” —  K.L. Toth

It seems that we are being conditioned by society to like the same things, buy the same things, think the same things, and have similar expectations for our lives. This is an inevitable result of globalization, mass marketing, and mass production. It’s interesting that so many of us still think that we are exercising ‘free will’ when we are buying the latest iPhone, wearing the latest Adidas tops and Nike shoes (just like the other two million-plus people worldwide who are doing the same.)

Because of all the distractions, we are constantly subjected to, it is becoming increasingly difficult to distinguish our ‘selves’ from the herd mentality. However, because we came here to express uniqueness, we can never be content or truly happy until we begin walking our own path.

Where is our path?

“Nothing happens until the pain of remaining the same outweighs the pain of change.”Arthur Burt

There are many paths to choose from

Our soul desires a path of passion, love, and joy…. all just because we can, just because we are here and we are alive!

The tragedy for many of us is that we don’t even realize that there are different paths to choose from. We were taught to fit in and conform because those teaching us thought that this is what life is all about.

‘Fit into this box and don’t bother looking outside of the box, because there is nothing out there for you. Just keep your head down, follow the rules, and do what everyone else is doing and you will fit in just nicely.’ Sounds good?

Ahhhh, not so great! Our innate desire (our soul’s choice) is to become experience-rich, to explore, to grow and evolve into more and more and bigger and brighter….. and this cannot happen when we are conforming to all the rules and regulations, and just doing what everyone else is doing to fit in!

Unfortunately, as Arthur Burt says above, IT OFTEN TAKES PAIN TO MOTIVATE US TO GET OFF OUR BUMS AND BECOME AN ACTIVE PARTICIPANT IN THE CREATION OF OUR OWN WONDERFUL LIVES.

“Can you remember who you were before the world told you who you should be?”Charles Bukowski

From a baby with unlimited potential, we are filled with programs about all aspects of life…. Programs from other people. Are their lives perfect? What qualified them to program us, their own ability to create and live extraordinary lives, or just the fact that they were our parents, peers, and near to us while we were young and impressionable?Who are we without our ego?

Maybe they never really took the time to analyze their own lives and are therefore just repeated to us ideas and beliefs that have been passed down through the generations to them, or stuff they were taught (without question)?

What would we be without the programs we have?

Who are we if we remove our beliefs, our attitudes, our thoughts and ideas, everything that makes up our ego-personality? We cannot find answers to these questions in the world of distractions outside of ourselves, for the answers lie within us.

“Don’t become too preoccupied with what is happening around you. Pay more attention to what is going on within you.” — Mary-Frances Winters

Great advice. Thank you Mary-Frances. But how will paying attention to what’s going on within us help us to know ourselves?

We need to bypass our unconscious minds, go below, or behind our programming to find what was there before we became this current collection of ‘borrowed’ beliefs, ideas, and thoughts, this ego-personality that we currently identify ourselves as.

To come to KNOW OUR MIND, without the stimulation of the senses, is to gain a glimpse of our true nature. When we are not receiving external stimulus there is only stillness left, only peace, contentment, balance, and harmony.

This is the place where our essential self resides, it is who we are on the inside when stripped of all the wants, desires, and beliefs, which make up our ego. It is the Garden of Eden, and it is here where we can begin again to rewrite our future reality, the way we wish it to be…..

“Man’s mind may be likened to a garden, which may be intelligently cultivated or allowed to run wild; but whether cultivated or neglected, it must, and will, bring forth. If no useful seeds are put into it, then an abundance of useless weed-seeds will fall therein, and will continue to produce their kind.” — James Allen

And the cycle begins again. We can now learn to reprogram ourselves, to become the greatest ideal of what we can currently imagine, to live the life of our dreams to achieve more than before, to be happier and more content than before, and TO CONTINUE TO DREAM OF HOW MUCH MORE WE CAN BECOME…….

So, where ever we are now on our journey, know this one thing for sure…. You have not reached the end of the road….. and you never will……

There is always another bump, another, distraction, another idea, AND ANOTHER BIGGER AND BRIGHTER DREAM, so…..

‘In the end, enjoying life’s experiences’ is the only rational thing to do.’Michael A SingerTo enjoy life's experiences is the only rational choice!

Yes, live at this moment! Invest your thoughts, your time, and all your energy into this moment to live it in the most fulfilling way possible. If you are having fun, joy, and experiencing love in your life now, this is what you will be attracting more of into your experience, and it is guaranteed that you will be living a better future!

If you are not yet living your ideal life, continue to dream and think of a better future for yourself and those that you love.

“The secret of change is to focus all your energy NOT on fighting the old but on BUILDING the new.” — Socrates

It doesn’t help us to focus our energy on what is, because this just attracts more of what is into our experience. Instead, we need to focus the incredible creative power of our awesome minds on BUILDING a vision of how we want our future to be.

Visualize it, feel it, taste it, touch it, and do everything that you can to make it real for you. Because once you have made it real with your thoughts, beliefs, and actions, without contradiction, your future imaginations will become your actual reality….. Law of Vibration, Law of Attraction, Universal Law, is uncompromising and never ever gets it wrong and always rewards you with an outer experience that matches the vibrations of your inner world.

“All that we are is the result of what we have thought.” — Buddha

Change your thoughts and you will change your world!

I wish you all a very happy future life.

  1. Great quotes, Andrew. I love this one the most: “What we focus on outside is a reflection of what we feel inside.” I come from a very jealous family and as a child, it took me some time to discover why I often felt uncomfortable with their remarks. Until I realized (I think in my twenties or so) that if someone always looks at others with envy, every word and action reflects that.

Subsequently, the quote of Buddha is a great one of course, “All that we are is the result of what we have thought.” It still requires effort on my behalf, because it’s easier to be negative than positive (built-in in our nature. I think it’s called the negativity bias). Affirmations are a part of my morning routine and they work great to achieve what I think is necessary for my own behavior.

I was surprised you also included a quote from Buskowski. I have always considered him a tragic figure, but I should read again about his life without being prejudiced beforehand. 🙂

    Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. Hi Hannie.

It’s amazing that most of us have a ‘negativity bias.’ Amazing, or just sad?
It says a lot about the societies that we are raised in because this is where we learn to copy the bias from.
It would be just as easy for our young and impressionable minds to absorb a positivity bias throughout our programming years, however, that’s not the way it currently is.

Our societies will be filled with more positive people when we, the ones responsible for programming the next generations, sort out our own ‘issues’ (or release the need to respond negatively.) Hense the Buskowski quote: “Can you remember who you were before the world told you who you should be?”
Wouldn’t it be great if we weren’t programmed towards negativity?????

      Have a great day 🙂
      Andrew

  2. Andrew,

It’s going to take a few readings to really get all that’s being said in this thought provoking piece.

Plus there’s just so many arguments and wisdom that one is spoilt for choice 🙂 Perhaps one of my favourites is this one from Socrates, “The secret of change is to focus all your energy NOT on fighting the old but on BUILDING the new.”

    Thanks
    Femi

    1. Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Femi.
I can never bypass Socrates when looking for awesome quotes. The man was a genius, and the world is a better place because he shared his wisdom with us.
I’m glad that I have given you something to think about, and hope that it inspires you to greater things.
Have a great day, my friend,
      Andrew

  3. I am always working on my mental health, mindfulness, and well-being. Living in the moment is so important. Loved this post!

  4. We agree “the secret to change is to focus all your energy not on fighting the old but on building the new”. This a great line and this resonates with us. This will be thought about and put into action and implemented in our daily lives for a long time to come.
The will that we have to be better is only getting stronger by the day and often we remind ourselves what our goals are and what our future will be.
The goal to make the future brighter is on you and the actions that you put forth daily with our goals in the back of our minds as we continue life.
It is good to keep focused and on a straight path to success if that’s what you believe.

    Cheers,
    Mathew&Deloris

    1. Hi guys. I have never understood the approach given by many therapists that involve analyzing our past ‘to death.’ This just keeps our energy stuck in any past pain we may have experienced. Socrates was indeed a very wise man all those years ago when he proposed that we just move forward and take the appropriate actions, have the correct thoughts, surround ourselves with the right people, etc. that will lead us to live the life that we desire for ourselves.
Thanks for sharing, and I wish you all the best on your journey.
      Cheers,
      Andrew
