Have you ever dreamed of a richer and more meaningful life experience but, as yet, still do not know how to achieve it? Michael Singer’s best-selling book, ‘The Untethered Soul’ is sure to provide some of the answers you are looking for.
Many of us have been on a journey to achieve more from this life than we are currently living. We may desire many things, but ultimately it is the fulfillment that we seek.
Quote: ‘The truth is, everything will be ok when you are ok with everything.’
In The Untethered Soul, Michael Singer describes many roadblocks we face that prevent us from living a life filled with happiness. Within its pages, we can come to understand what has been limiting us up until now and how we can once again regain control over our complete well-being.
This thought-provoking book opens the door for us all to live a life of freedom by rising above our inner disturbances to find a source of peace and tranquility that is already a part of our true inner being.
Is this a journey that you are willing to take?
Quote: ‘The greatest gift one can give to God is to be happy with His creation.’
Michael teaches his readers, with love and respect, how to be free from limitations so that we can all sour beyond our self-imposed boundaries. His wisdom is made evident when we find ourselves reaching outside of our previous limited box of understanding on a daily basis because of the insights he provides.
We are encouraged to utilize the tools of mindfulness and meditation as a way to recognize, and then take responsibility for our current life situations. These tools allow us to remain in the present moment which is where all healing takes place. Here we can begin to let go of past painful memories and thoughts that we have that have prevented us from achieving more favorable outcomes in our lives. We achieve this as we learn to become more emotionally available to all the wonderful experiences life offers to us on a daily basis.
Quote: ‘If you want to be happy, you have to let go of the part of you that wants to create melodrama.’
The Untethered Soul will shake up your complacency with living a mediocre life and propel you towards a future that will be inspiring and truly worth living.
It is the ‘toxic subconscious voice inside our heads’ that is going on all day and every day that is the cause for the discontent that we have with our lives. This inner monologue tries to shape our reality so as to maintain a sense of control and keep us safe from anything that we are not familiar with. This subconscious dictator is the reason that so many of us often make decisions and take actions that are detrimental to our overall health, well-being, and happiness. When we are held back by fear of the unknown, we are prevented from growing in experience and our lives will remain familiar, boring, and unexciting.
Quote: ‘In the end, enjoying life’s experiences is the only rational thing to do.’
The good news, according to Michael, is that once we realize that this is happening, we can stop, relax, breathe, and take control. In this way, we do not have to accept a sub-standard life experience for ourselves based on the fear emanating from our inner ‘protector.’
The next step is to sincerely ask and explore the question ‘Who am I?’ By seriously contemplating this question we will come to the understanding that we are not our thoughts, we are not our memories, we are not our bodies, and we are not our emotions. This is soul-stirring information and then the understanding of it allows us to progressively come to know ourselves as the ‘absolute creator of our own lives.’
Quote: ‘There is nothing more important to true growth than realizing that you are not the voice of the mind- You are the one who hears it.’
This book is written in an engaging and friendly manner and is free from any religious dogma. It is broken down into five parts which can be summarized as:
Part one: Awakening consciousness. Michael explores the perception we have of ourselves and draws our attention to the inner dialogue that is constantly invading our mind, through conscious thoughts, and more prevalent, the subconscious thoughts that we have that are controlling our lives.
Part two: Experiencing energy. Energy is constantly flowing through and around us. Humans are in fact complex bio-electrical organisms and it is when our energy systems are blocked, damaged, or confused that we experience disease, dissatisfaction, and discontentment with our lives. Michael encourages us to open our hearts to the natural flow of life’s energies as a way of dramatically improving our life experience.
Part three: Freeing yourself. We are given tools that help us to remain open to the vast array of experiences that life has to offer us that will lead to our personal growth and development.
Part four: Going beyond. With the understanding that we are consciousness and that we are a part of all other consciousness, we are encouraged to expand beyond our tiny box of understanding to grow toward self-realization or enlightenment.
Part five: Living life. This is about taking what we have learned and putting it into practice in our daily lives so that we may gift to ourselves a life that is truly exceptional and well worth being present for, a life filled with abundance, joy, peace, and ultimately freedom.
Quote: ‘True personal growth is about transcending the part of you that is not okay and needs protection.’
This book is a valuable resource for anyone who wants to gain control of their life. It will show you how to remove fear, doubt, and negativity from yourself so that you will be able to live in peace no matter what hurdles you are confronted with.
One of the most valuable lessons for me was that of ‘Contemplating Death.’ We all know that we are going to die one day. However, we do not know when this day will be. So it makes sense to prioritize the things that are important to us and then do them as soon as we can- before it is too late! Don’t waste your time on the trivial stuff that is just hampering your ability to enjoy life, like jealousy, anger, fear, doubt, etc. Make a plan and go and do things that will uplift your soul, NOW! These things will also be uplifting for all those who you are surrounded by, and because ALL life is connected by consciousness, All life will benefit when each one of us engages in personal growth and self-development.
Quote: ‘At some part in the journey it all becomes heart, not mind.’
The Untethered Soul concludes that we are the watcher of the experiences, thoughts, emotions, and actions that we are experiencing while we are aware that we reside in this human body. We are ‘consciousness’ and as consciousness, we can observe all other aspects of ourselves and the world at large as it unfolds around us.
Quote: ‘No matter what happens below you, just turn your eyes upward and relax your heart.’
Shared with light and love for all beings,
Andrew

I really like the quote: “There is nothing more important to true growth than realizing that you are not the voice of the mind- You are the one who hears it.”

Thanks for the review. I am not religious in any way, but I believe in the difference meditation and mindfulness can bring. I actually started practicing mindfulness about a year ago, and have gotten both hubby and my 7 years old into some practice as well. Really agree with the quote: everything will be ok when you are ok with everything
thanks again 🙂
Cheers
Karina
Hi Karina. Many thanks for taking the time to read my post. I don’t consider meditation and mindfulness to be religious as such. They are practical and universal tools that anyone can use to improve their understanding, and deepen their connection, to their essential soul self. It’s great that you have got your family involved in practicing mindfulness as well. Everyone wins 🙂
I wish you a fantastically aware day!
Cheers, Andrew
Hey Andrew!
Great review of the book! I have only recently finished this book and I must say you made me want to read it all over again! It is such a fantastic book. I enjoyed every section of the book but the Comtemplating Death section really hit me for sure. I am glad he took the time to touch on a subject that people tend to avoid thinking about. I am really trying to do my best at not putting things off anymore and not letting my mind stop me from doing things I really want to do.
Thanks for your review, you have an easy to read and engaging writing style!
All the best!
