We exist. And you are here currently reading this blog. How did we get here? Out of all the possible choices available to us at this very moment, you had a thought and it led you here to read this blog about How You Can Control Your Thoughts!
Yes, you had a thought, which resulted in feelings and other associated thoughts, and then you engaged in an action that led you here. This is the cycle of our lives. Thoughts, feelings, and actions, all of which result in outcomes… and the cycle repeats, indefinitely. This is a continuous cycle that we cannot escape, whether we are aware of it or not, whether we like it or not.
So, why not use it to your advantage? Yes, you can learn to control your thoughts so that they work for you, helping to achieve your goals and dreams, and it’s easier than you may think to change your thoughts and change your life.
How You Can Control Your Thoughts and Make Your Life Better
Most of the thoughts you think each day (up to ninety-five percent) come from your subconscious mind. This is the part of the mind that deals with the past…. what you have thought and done before. Therefore your days are mostly a repeat of what you have already done, the same things that have got you to where you are now. If you want to improve your life, you need to begin thinking new and better thoughts that will lead to better feelings and actions. There are many tools that can help you do this, including Meditation, Mindfulness, NLP, Hypnosis, Visualizations, etc…..
How Can You Make Your Life Better?
Living a better life is something many of us think about. However, few follow up with the necessary study, and even fewer move on to implement the actions required to help themselves live a better life. Why is that?
It’s easy and less challenging to remain the same, doing the same things, with the same people over and over again. However, this just leads to a predictable and stagnant life. If you don’t progress with the addition of new skills or information/knowledge you will not develop, grow, progress, or advance forward in any meaningful way.
Since life is a journey and we have learned everything we currently know up to this point in our lives, we have proven to ourselves, beyond any doubt, that we are capable of learning vast amounts of information and skills. There was a time when we couldn’t even walk, couldn’t dress ourselves, or even talk. Now we can easily do these things and so much more. And yes, you can continue to learn so much more, regardless of your current age or circumstances…
There are only two important things that you must always remember- Never stop learning, and then, you must implement the best of what you have learned. Then, if you have learned beneficial things, you will be setting yourself up for a better future.
If You Change Your Thoughts, Your Life Will Change!
There is no point wanting a better life, there is no point hoping for a better life, and there is no point looking for a better life. Wanting and hoping demand no action from yourself, so doing these alone will change nothing. And if you don’t change yourself, your life will never change…. you will be doomed to receive more of the same content that you have in your current life! Is this what you want?
If you do not change, you will by the Law of Attraction, continue to attract more of the same circumstances into your life that you already have!
You have to do something different to get a different result for yourself. So, how do you begin this process?
Becoming Mindful of your thoughts is the place you need to begin. Why? Because it is your current patterns of predominant thoughts that have created the current circumstances of your life. so becoming aware of your most often thoughts will allow you to assess if they are supporting your goals and dreams for a better life, or preventing you getting the things you want.
Your predominant thoughts are coming from your deeply ingrained beliefs. And they are telling you what is good or bad, to go left or right, to buy this product or that one, and who your friends should be. If You had different thoughts, you would choose different products, friends, directions, jobs, etc. So, you can see how important your thoughts are in determining the circumstances of your life.
Why is it then that the average person is only consciously aware of five percent of their thoughts? This means that the other ninety-five percent of thoughts most people have, they are not consciously aware of….. and the bad news is that it is these 95% that are having the predominant influence in creating the content of your lives. Therefore, if you are not happy with your life, if your life is hard, then you need to begin the task of reprogramming your subconscious mind with thought patterns that support the direction you want your life to take!
Can You Learn To Control Your Thoughts…. Yes, You Can!
At the moment, the programming in your subconscious mind is controlling the majority of your life. A better life to unfold for you when you take back control of your mind. This means becoming mindful of more of your thoughts, more of the time. Then you can overwrite the thoughts that do not support you with thoughts that will help you create the better future you desire.
The results are not immediate, but this process, if you stick with it, will generate the desired results……. but only if you put in the effort to become aware of what is happening inside your mind!
The more relaxed you are with this process, the better your results will be. There is no need to stress out every time you catch yourself thinking un-supportive thoughts. Become relaxed with the process and realize that life is a journey, a journey where you are learning to be the creator of your own reality.
Every time you catch yourself with a negative thought, just be happy that you now have the opportunity to overwrite it with ten new thoughts that will support you! If you do this many times every day, in a short time your subconscious mind will be overrun with awesome thoughts and your basic programming will be changed to create the better life you desire.
There is Only One Person Responsible For Your Life, and It’s You!
It’s easy to blame your circumstances, the mess that your life may be in, on other people. However, it is your thoughts that led to the actions you took that have created your current life. Once you understand and accept this, you will regain the power to take back control of your life. Then, you assume responsibility and begin to change your thought processes to change the direction your life will begin to take.
You need to ask yourself…. do you want your life to continue as it is, with more of the same drama, lack, stress, struggle, etc. or are you ready to reclaim your power as the creator of the content of your life?
Your desire to change is only the first step. Then, your action is required! And your action is always preceded by your thoughts…. So, start now by knowing that you are worthy of having all the good things in life that you desire. Start now by loving and respecting the person that you currently are- regardless of any perceived faults that you believe you have. Start now by having thoughts that acknowledge that you are worthy of living the better life that you desire for yourself and your lved ones….
Self-respect, self-appreciation, and self-love are the necessary first step for generating self-supporting thoughts that will create the foundation you need to begin creating a your better life!

Hi Andrew,
Very nice post. I learned a long long time ago to not let things bother me. I was depressed in high school and one day i decided to take my life back and not live that way. Ever since then I have not let anything get to me in that way. I take everything in and just get past it. I have found that most people cannot do that. most people seem to dwell on things and not be able to take control. I hope your website can provide some insight for others.
Hi Chastity. You are one of the few who thinks like this. It’s unfortunate that our schooling systems focus on teaching us facts and figures instead of ‘life skills.’ I too hope that my words will encourage others to take control of their minds so they are able to live more fulfilling and rewarding lives.
Thanks for the comments,
Kind regards
Andrew
I really like the point you make about learning; we have been learning every single day since day one and we’ve got to where we are now- think about how much further we could get if we sped up that learning process! Self-discipline and control of your thoughts is another awesome tip. I think that physical self – discipline (healthy eating and sleeping for example) can work hand in hand with mental control and discipline! Do you agree?
Hi Benji. Yes, I agree with you. We are a magnificent multidimensional being, composed of physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects. All aspects are intimately connected and we cannot change one without affecting the others. For example, if we suddenly decide to eat better, (mental), and then begin eating better quality foods our bodies will feel better, (physical). This leads to an upswing in how we are feeling, (emotional) and the overall result is an increase in energy and vitality, (improved spiritual connection). Many opportunities present themselves to us each day for us to improve our own wellbeing. Whether we take advantage of these opportunities is up to us!
Kind regards

Thanks Andrew,
As someone who used to work in high stress jobs that often took their toll on my family, I really connected with your content. I have been working through ways to change my life for a few years after getting fired from one of those jobs. It is not easy to change mindset around stature, income and physical property.
I love the message about taking responsibility for yourself, I heard a saying the other day “If you continue to let old wounds fester you end up bleeding on those that don’t deserve it.
Thanks for a great blog and I look forward to reading more.
Hi Paul, and thanks for sharing. I believe live presents to us the lessons that we most need to learn. I know it may sound harsh to some people, but often a ‘misfortune’ like being fired from a ‘high-stress job’ is the best thing for you. It’s often only with hindsight that we can see what a blessing this ‘misfortune’ is. I trust it has allowed you to improve your relationships, heal your body from stress-related die-ease, and look for alternative sources of income that are more favorable to your general health and wellbeing.
I wish you all the best.
Kind regards
Andrew
There’s a mad monkey living in my head! It would be magical if I can control my thoughts. I have tried meditation but I didn’t stick to it. Will give it another go. I have to say, life does seems to be better when I had my mind somewhat in control! Thanks for sharing this!
Hi, Wei. Yes, the mind can be like a mad monkey. haha, been there, done that! But believe me when I say that with practice it becomes a lot easier. Many people when starting to meditate make the mistake of trying to hard. They think there is something that they need to achieve to be successful. However, the best way to approach meditation is just to relax. Focus on your breathing without trying to change it, and then just become an observer who is watching the thoughts going past in your mind. If you become attached to any thought, just let it go and practice being the one observing the thoughts again. In time the mad monkey will release his grip on you.
Best of luck,
Andrew
Hi Irma, Thanks for sharing.
Family is a tough one because they think they know you based on how you have been throughout your life. So when you implement changes in your own life, most of the time they are unable, or unwilling, to interact with the revised ‘you.’ They like to pretend that things can carry on as they have done in the past! In this way they don’t have to change anything about themselves.
If you stay true to yourself, you won’t participate in these negative people bashing discussions anymore. If you move away or refuse to comment on these discussions, over time they will recognize the change in you. Hopefully, this may lead them to question the value of what they are doing, and inspire them to also change their negative habits and become ‘better people.’ Gentle reminders of the good qualities in the people they are bashing will also help them to see the person in a more favorable light.
It is very admirable to want to help others become ‘better people.’ And while we can see how their life will benefit from positive changes, it is not something that we have the right to force upon another person. We are all individual souls on individual journeys/learning experiences, and if we don’t understand the lesson this time, we will be presented with the same lessons again and again until we ‘graduate’ this school of life. Let them deal with their lessons in their way, and this will allow you to focus on the most important thing….. Yourself!
The very best thing you can do to help those you care about is to always be the best version of yourself that you can be. Leading by example is a great way to inspire others to change, by showing them how much lighter life can be when you are not drowning in negativity.
I hope this has helped. Please feel free to continue this discussion.
Wishing you health, wealth, wisdom and a very happy life.
Andrew
Great post and really inspiring!
I am talking to my mom about this stuff as she is just moving from one home to another and we have spent the summer decluttering and throwing away stuff that my dad collected over the years (he passed 9 years ago), as well as all the stuff my mom had.
I know it has been stressful for my mom, and she is so stuck in a rut of negative thinking, poverty thinking and family gossip. It kills me visiting and I have fight the urge to join in, especially when other family is visiting because they all sit around saying the most horrible things about others.
I know that I have to find a way to move forward away from my family, while still being able to participate in gatherings. Do you have any advice?
Hi Andrew,
The content on your site is very well constructed and it looks good.

This is a great post! I totally agree that our happiness is in our own hands (and minds). Mindfulness has recently been a big part of my life as I believe that being more present in your day to day rather than consumed with worry or anxiety helps in the journey towards creating the life you want! Great article!
Many thanks. Yes, worry and anxiety only serve to undermine our well-being. They serve no useful purpose. Being present is what is truly important.
Kind regards

Hi Andrew,
Thanks for the uplifting words. It’s nice to be reminded that I am in control of my mind and can shape my reality. I am wondering your thoughts about how one can become better at respecting themselves more? What kinds of things can someone do to become more mindful?
Thanks again,
Matthew
Hi Matthew. Thanks for the kind comments. The easiest and best solution to become more mindful is to stop any form of personal self-criticism or self-judgment. Our mind then becomes free to just observe what is happening without judgment. When we are in this neutral space we can see more clearly the truth of what is unfolding around us and are then able to shape our thoughts constructively to create the outcomes that we desire. I hope this helps. If not, I am happy to continue the conversation.
Kind regards
Andrew
Andrew,
Thank you for the article. I definitely had to learn to re-direct my thoughts as I suffer depression. There is one person responsible for and it’s me (and God).
Thanks for the info.
Hi there, Thanks for the comments. I am happy that you have learned this already.
Best wishes on your journey.
Kind regards
