The reality, that we as individuals see and interact with, is a very small portion of all that is happening around us. And OUR personal reality is shaped by OUR own experiences, perceptual habits, and memories.
In a complete scene of any moment in time, anywhere, we will choose to consciously perceive and retain a limited amount of information that could be quite different from others standing right next to us. And to further complicate things, what we perceive actually amounts to us making guesses about much of it- and then leaving our minds to fill in the blanks. In this way, we create a story around it based on our beliefs and previous experiences.
So, even though our story can be different from everyone else’s, there will be some common information upon which we agree, and this is what we consider to be our consensus reality. This consensus reality includes stuff like ‘our governments are there to make our lives better,’ ‘we need to breathe air,’ and ‘if we get hit by a speeding bus, we will most likely end up in a hospital. You can read more about this in my post:
What is the consensus view of reality: And how does accepting it limit our potential?
So while we have much in common with our fellow humans, it is within our personal reality that WE find the substance that WE need for our continued growth….. And although we may not necessarily like our current circumstances, they are our reality and it is of our own making.
Each one of us has personally created our own reality as it currently is due to our thoughts, beliefs, and actions (or inaction), and therefore, the good news is that each one of us has the ability to change our reality in any way we choose.
Our repetitive thoughts shape Our beliefs and Our beliefs cause us to behave in specific and predictable ways
Our body is the vehicle that our soul inhabits in this time/space environment which allows us to have this current physical experience. And our experiences change as we change our thoughts as repetitive thoughts, which become beliefs, are creating all of our experiences. This is because it is our thoughts that guide us to do this or that, to go here or there, or to love this person or that person.
So every time we make a choice it moves us in one direction and away from other directions that other choices would have taken us. Therefore, in this way, our thoughts have guided us to create our present reality.
As such, we are living the results of our thoughts and therefore we are able to change our life simply by changing our thoughts and choosing one of the many other options available at any given time.
It is the constant repetitive thoughts that create our belief systems. And it is our strongly held beliefs that have the most power in creating our current life because they determine how we will act most of the time. Our current beliefs are a direct accumulation of how the majority of our thoughts have been in the past.
It can be lucky for us that the occasional fleeting thoughts that enter our minds do not have much power to create our reality. However, this also means that if we are generally a pessimistic person we will not be able to create a more positive life experience by having just a few uplifting optimistic thoughts every now and then.
Creating meaningful change requires a concerted effort. First, with conscious awareness, and mindfulness, we will become aware of our existing thought patterns. Once we can begin to see a pattern in how we think, we can begin to understand that the life we are living is a result of the repetitive thoughts (that align with our subconscious beliefs) that we have been having.
Use mindfulness techniques to help become aware of your personal reality
Try this simple exercise. Stop; become aware of your breathing. Breathe with intent, slowly, deeply, and in a relaxed manner, keeping it comfortable. Stop and breathe…… Often!
Become aware of your thoughts, watch them often.
Most of the time we will find that our minds will be running away on their own. You may be surprised to learn what your mind is thinking about when left to run amok, without direct conscious awareness!
Responsible parents do not let their children run around at their own discretion to do whatever they want. Parents tend to believe it is in their children’s best interests that they are educated and controlled in regards to what they consider are the right ways to behave, act and think.
How much more important do you think it is that we take control of our own minds?
It is after all solely responsible for creating your reality! (Therefore it’s really, really, important.)
We should be the master of our minds. However, without a doubt, the average person is not aware of the workings of their mind for the majority of the time. It’s fair to say that the majority of us could benefit by exercising greater control over what we are thinking.
Where did our beliefs come from, and do they serve our highest good? If our answer is no, then we can start to think different thoughts to create a better future for ourselves and for those that we love. There is no ‘quick fix’ here, and it takes repetitive and consistent efforts followed up by action to have a lasting and meaningful impact on the direction our life is taking. (Now is the best time to begin!)
If thoughts about regrets, lost opportunities, ‘I should have, I could have,’ etc. are replaced with thoughts of love, self-appreciation, acceptance, compassion, and forgiveness, we will gradually change our beliefs, our body, and our life for the better.
The best way to start is with contemplation, meditation, and mindfulness, focusing on the positive things we currently have in our lives as this will allow us to immediately benefit by feeling more optimistic.
Spending time alone in quiet contemplation so that we become more aware of our thoughts helps us to become more conscious of our inner programming.
This is the first important step in changing away from the current personal reality that we are not happy with.
Therefore, time to analyze our thoughts and contemplate their effect on our lives is very important to us if we want to take control of our minds and subsequently of our lives.
Do you know who you are and how to feel good about yourself?
So, change your thoughts to change your life!
Easy to say! However, it takes time to undo the damage that has been created by taking on the beliefs that have been constantly fed to us by parents, teachers, friends, media, government, etc.
Changing the way we live, to become aware of why we continue in the cycles that we do, will give us more freedom in the future- freedom to make choices based on what can really bring contentment, fulfillment, and peace to our life.
What we think about ourselves is a vital component of the quality of life that we are living. Our minds (through thoughts) are constantly reprogramming our bodies to create our future physical selves and all the circumstances of our lives. Therefore, having or creating a positive self-image is very important.
When looking in the mirror, what do you see? What are the first thoughts that you think about yourself?
Most people have been taught that it is somehow wrong and selfish to love ourselves. However, we need to love ourselves before we can love anyone else. If we do not love ourselves, how can we expect anyone else to love us? After all, we must be thinking that there is something wrong with us if we withhold love from ourselves.
If we can become aware of the conditions we impose upon loving ourselves, we can begin to take control by changing our patterns of thinking so that we can begin to love ourselves more and more. And once we can appreciate and respect ourselves, then we will command the same respect from others for ourselves and we will also be able to express more love for others than what was previously possible.
Our excuses for ourselves are based on false beliefs we hold about ourselves
By listening to our self-talk and watching the thoughts in our minds, from a third-person perspective, we can become aware of what we think is actually wrong with us. Our self-talk may be saying things like ‘I’m too old, I’m too fat, thin, short, tall, too stupid and too clumsy,’ or an endless array of other false beliefs.
These are just ideas we have taken on board as we were growing up and repeated to ourselves so often that they became something we now believe. And this does not mean these beliefs are true! It just means that we choose to believe them. So……Stop regurgitating these self-limiting thought patterns NOW, and begin creating new beliefs that will support you in creating the future that you actually desire for yourself.
Your powerful, magnificent mind believes everything that you program it with! Our personal truth is just a matter of what we choose to believe at any given time! It is that simple.
If you choose to believe that you are worthy to have a fantastic life your subconscious mind will seek out opportunities to make this your reality.
Understanding The Law of Attraction allows us to consciously create the dream lives we desire for ourselves
The Law of Attraction says that ‘we get back in direct relation to what we put out!’ If we can understand this, we come to realize that we alone are in control of our own circumstances. For some, knowing this is a comfort as it gives us complete control over the direction and content of our lives as we understand that it is our thoughts leading to actions that have put us in the perfect situation that we currently find ourselves, so we can continue to learn and grow in experience.
We alone have earned both our good fortune and tragedy…. no one else has given us either!
And once we accept responsibility for our current situation we can begin to make the appropriate changes to positively affect our future. If however, we do not believe we are responsible for our situation, we will continue to look outside of ourselves for release from our current situation…… and never find it, but instead, bind ourselves tighter to the consensus illusionary reality that currently exists on Earth- one that falsely says that we are not in control of our own lives!
All enlightened teachers throughout the ages have said this in their own words.
The Bible says it like this: “Whatever a man sows, this he will also reap” (Galatians 6:7). This advises that we have total control over our own future. The apostle Paul wrote in Galatians 6:8-9, “The one who sows to please his sinful nature, from that nature will reap destruction; the one who sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”
This is mirrored by those who believe in Karma, which is the universal law of cause and effect. Buddhism, Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism, and Taoism all have a long history of understanding how the intent and actions of an individual actor directly and uncompromisingly influence the future of that individual. They understand that all thoughts and actions are manifestations of energy and therefore have consequences that have resulted in the life we are currently living.
Written in the 7th Century BCE, the Brihadaranyaka Upanishad, 4.4.5-6, of Hinduism states:
“Now as a man is like this or like that, according as he acts and according as he behaves, so will he be;
a man of good acts will become good, a man of bad acts, bad;
he becomes pure by pure deeds, bad by bad deeds;
And here they say that a person consists of desires, and as is his desire, so is his will;
and as is his will, so is his deed;
whatever deed he does, that he will reap.”
How do I make a better life?
Our remedy to sub-standard lives lies in the decisions we make each and every moment of every day.
If we do not appreciate ourselves, we will attract towards us ‘like’ energy. In essence, we become a magnet for others who will also not appreciate us. Energy is perfect and can only behave according to the natural laws of the universe– and it is never wrong. This is why some of us feel comfortable in certain environments, or with certain people, and others prefer different environments and the company of other people. Like attracts like!
To make a better life situation for ourselves, we need to become aware of what music we listen to, what TV programs we watch, what movies we like, where we like to hang out, and with whom. Everything is energy vibrating at different frequencies. And at times it will be uplifting and at other times we will be pulled down by the choices we are making.
However, we can always choose to be lifted up. So why don’t we? It is we who choose what to do with our time and where to focus our energies, and it always serves our highest good to choose uplifting thoughts and experiences.
So, what are you going to do now….
Where will you focus your energy….
I hope for your benefit that you choose thoughts and actions that will uplift your vibration so that you will begin making your future better than your present…..
The power is in your hands!
Shared with light and love with the intention of helping to create more love and joy in the lives of individuals so they can help others with the intention of creating a more positive life experience for all beings.

This was an awesome and super informative post, Andrew! Thank you for all of your insightful words and for spreading this message to others. I am still in the process of trying to attract better things in life through my thoughts… it is tough at times to have this discipline and consistency, but it is so necessary in order to live a good life.
Hi Ashley. It sounds like you know how to do attract the things you want to create a better life for yourself, but as you say it can be hard to be consistent. The thing to understand is that life is a journey, and if you had all of the answers and everything sorted out now, then you would not actually have to be alive. So while you are here try and enjoy the journey as much as possible. We all falter at times, but hey, that’s how we learn more about ourselves. Remember, be nothing but loving and kind to yourself at all times and you will have a great life experience.
With love and respect to you,
Andrew
Great content Andrew!
I feel I connected a lot with this post, there is times I lose focus on myself and I find myself having to recoup. One thing that does help me A LOT is when I do what you mentioned earlier, spend time alone!
Thanks so much for this great content, you have an amazing writing style!
Keep up the great post’s!
Hi Anna. Many thanks for the inspiration by saying that I have an amazing writing style 🙂 I shall keep it up! As you understand, time out, or time alone is so important to our general wellbeing. It is made even better when we use that time to consciously connect with our inner being and nature. I wish you well on your journey. Kind regards,
Andrew
This is incredibly relevant and absolutely mind blowing information. I have always felt this way about the subconscious, I generally refer to it as the ether but the same thing nonetheless. So much of what happens to is governed by a force we have to tame in order to have any hold over it. Most people are toy soldiers letting their mind be sculpted by outside sources instead of harnessing it and using it as a barrier against the things we don’t want and a path to the things we do.
This was truly a great article.
Hi Stan. You have a great way of explaining this concept. Short, sweet and to the point. For some reason we are taught about so many things from a young age, but never taught how to use our most important asset…… or incredibly powerful mind. We would all be leading much happier, healthier, wealthier and wise lives if we use it to get the things we want. Cheers mate, and thanks for sharing.
Andrew
Wow, such an inspirational read.
I totally agree on shaping our thoughts and be aware of the ANT (automated negative thoughts) that a lot of us are not aware of, but can certainly get to us in the long term.
Even the things that we said to ourselves like “I can’t do that cause I’m not smart enough” etc is really toxic and feeding ourselves with better thoughts can definitely translate it to how we act as well.
Looking forward to your upcoming posts!
Hi Wina. Many thanks for taking the time to read my post. We need to take better care of ourselves by watching our thoughts to make sure that we are not harming ourselves with negative self-talk. You are right when you say that the ANT will certainly harm us in the future. I wish you a wonderful day. Kind regards,
Andrew
Hi, I have heard of the law of attraction and even tried some techniques taught in the training.
I must say though I have stopped the routine because the results didn’t happen fast enough.
Now I’m in danger of falling into negative thoughts I know. I’m glad to have read this article and will immediately start looking at the things I will have in my life rather than thinking about the things I don’t have but want.
I understand happiness is not a state of being but if we’re open the Moments of happiness can come to us much easier.
Hi Stefan. many thanks for sharing your thoughts with us. Many people are similar to you and require fast results as proof that something works. However, it has taken your whole life of thinking in certain ways to get you to where you are now. It’s really not reasonable to be able to turn that situation around in a really short period of time, (although, it is possible.) Give it more time, and also create actions towards achieving the things that you desire in your future life, and with time if you stick at it, you will achieve the things you want. I wish you all the best on your journey,
Kind regards, Andrew
Hi Andrew,
happiness is certainly a choice. I loved reading your article and agree that we often don’t believe in ourselves or our skills and abilities enough. Thanks for the interesting read
Hi Marketa. Thanks for taking the time to read my post. We are amazing beings, capable of so much creativity and potential. And yet so many of us learned to limit ourselves and expect so little from life. Yes, you are right! It is a choice, and once we are aware that we can choose differently, we can begin to create the awesome lives that we desire. Make your life a fantastic one! Wishing you all the best on your journey to fulfilling your dreams,
Andrew
Andrew,
Another great post. Thank you for being such an inspiration to me.
Everything you say is spot on and once you are able to change your thought pattern then really, the skies the limit. I love it when I am able to take a step back and ask my self – where is my thought process and what can I change about this thinking pattern so I don’t feel this way.
Even today, a co-worker said something to me which I immediately took offence too. In turn, I wanted to snap back. Then I realized he’s just frustrated and unfortunately because we work side by side, I got the blunt end of it. It took me asking myself why do I feel like that to take what he said and turn into why he said it.
I feel a lot better now though!
It’s taking the little things and manifesting them into something positive and grow it into the greater success of your future!
Thanks again Andrew,
Kahlua
Hey Kahlua. Thanks for taking the time to read and leave a comment on my post. It’s awesome to realize how much we have learned when we can stop and analyze a situation instead of reacting out of habits. You are to be congratulated for your emotional intelligence which gives you the ability to turn any situation into a ‘positive’ exchange instead of creating more anger, sorrow, fear, mistrust, etc. With much love and respect for you on your journey,
Andrew
This is so relevant at our time, we all need to take a step back and start looking inside ourselves and shaping our path accordingly. It is sad how sometimes you don’t realize this until something happens or simply grow older. Thank you for this post, it’s very helpful.
Hi Sahar. Many thanks for taking the time to read my post. I now believe that we can only come to certain realizations when we are able to provide our own solutions. So, its never too late, or we are never too old. The time is always right to act upon that which we realize. Thanks for sharing 🙂
Kind regards, Andrew
